The open slot on the judges table at the Fox reality show, X factor, has a very interested party in the person of LeAnn Rimes. The popular singer says that she is interested in being a judge on the show and that her “people” have contacted their “people” to inquire about the possibility. In fact, Ms. Rimes said that she has met with the co-producer of the show FremantleMedia North America to discuss this opening as well as other spots that might suit her. Simon Cowell, the incorrigible Brit that runs X Factor has been looking for judges to replace Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger before the second season of the show begins and rumor has it that he is looking for two female judges only. Ms. Rimes would seem to fit the bill very nicely but Cowell has been known to dance to the beat of his own drum when it comes to the show so it remains to be seen if he and music producer L. A. Reid will offer her the position on the X Factor judges panel.
Media types following the story say that Ms. Rimes would bring a few positives to the show, including a background in country music, which remains one of the most popular TV type of music in America. She also has experience with these types of shows having been a finalist at the age of eight on Star Search in 1991. And while she also has other less attractive issues that will follow her, including weight issues and her marriage to Eddie Cibrian, these things are also seen as being a good source of attention-getting headlines for the show.
Prior to her death last week, Whitney Houston is said to have been considered for the open spot by Simon Cowell. Other names circulating for the open judges spot on X Factor are UK Factor star Kelly Rowland, who recently quit her position in the UK version of the show to pursue her solo singing career in the U.S. Vanessa Hudgens and Britney Spears have also been mentioned for the open X Factor judging spot.

My take:
I’d like to say that I care or that I actually even know who LeAnn Rimes really is, but I’d be lying. Perhaps I’ll go to You Tube and check out some of her music but I have a feeling that shortly after doing so I will probably have to run for the safety of my Tom Waits music collection and just sit back and imagine what a fantastic judge he would be for the show.
